Inver Hills Community College is committed to its continual improvement. The Academic Quality Improvement Program is an alternative accreditation method of the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission that employs a quality improvement model. Inver Hills was admitted to AQIP on November 22, 2002.
Created during the first three years of AQIP involvement, the Systems Portfolio is a public portfolio describing fundamental institutional systems including the context, processes, results, and improvement in each system. Nine AQIP categories
provide the framework for evaluating each system as well as the overall structure for the Systems Portfolio. The portfolio also shows evidence that the institution continues to meet the Higher Learning Commission's five Criteria for Accreditation. Inver Hills' Systems Portfolio was completed in May 2006. After external review by AQIP appraisers, Inver Hills received the Systems Appraisal Feedback Report, which serves as the Higher Learning Commission's formal response to the Systems Portfolio. This report is dated September 22, 2006. Inver Hills also maintains a e-Portfolio that serves as the web version of the Systems Portfolio.

AQIP requires that each institution actively pursue three to four quality improvement action projects. As action projects are completed, they are retired and the college will select replacement projects. Each year, project updates are reported to the Higher Learning Commission. These projects along with their associated documents are described in more detail in the AQIP Action Projects section.
After AQIP admits an institution, its Reaffrirmation of Accreditation is scheduled in seven years. At this time, based on a pattern of commitment to continuous improvement and evidence of adherence to the five Criteria for Accreditation, AQIP reaffirms its decision to continue accrediation. Inver Hills' Reaffirmation of Accreditation is scheduled for 2009-10.
The Emergency Health Services program (EMT/Paramedic) has been awarded national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
