A.A.S., Building Inspection Technology

(65 credits)


BIT Purpose: This program is designed to introduce individuals to the Construction Code profession, to provide a better understanding of codes to those who work with the profession, and to enhance the abilities of individuals currently involved in the Construction Codes profession.


Outcomes: The student: (1) will identify, interpret and enforce the Construction Code; (2) will effectively communicate and interact with the public and other professionals; (3) will recognize the code officials duties to protect the safety of the public; (4) will conduct basic plan reviews and inspections; and (5) may be qualified to apply for state certification as a Building Official or a Building Official Limited.


Program Information: Building inspection courses are offered in the evenings and on weekends. Equivalent courses are available at North Hennepin Community College. Students may be jointly enrolled in both institutions, taking courses wherever convenient for them.
