German --- GERM

About the German Department

The German department at Inver Hills provides a program that develops the students' ability to communicate effectively in German and familiarizes the students with the cultural traditions of the German-speaking countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Students experience interactive, learner-centered activities, which employ a variety of culturally authentic themes from everyday life including cartoons, art, music, video, Internet, and cultural events on campus. As a smaller program with highly qualified, enthusiastic and supportive faculty, it offers students personalized instruction to meet their individual needs. The college provides a variety of extracurricular activities such as German Club, weekend language retreats, interdepartmental lectures, film evenings, breakfast celebrations, contests, and outings to concerts, operas and restaurants. The department annual recognizes a student for outstanding achievement in German courses. Majoring in German can lead to career opportunities in international law and business, engineering, journalism, music, art history, science, teaching and scholarship. Students may transfer their credits to a four-year institution of their choice.
