HCM 0900  Medical Terminology

This is an overview of medical terminoloy, giving the person beginning a health care career or a person who wishes a refresher the basics of learning, terminology. The seminar is not intended to provide sufficient knowledge to replace a credit course of terminology. Objectives: 1) Become familiar with the importance of medical language at work and for personl use. 2) Learn the importance of prefixes and suffixes in understanding medical words. 3) Study antomical structure and diagnoses of the musculosketetal, respiratory, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems.


HCM 0903  Intermediate CPT Coding Workshop

This course follows the Basic CPT Coding workshop. After a brief review of coding with CPT, the time will be used for actual "hands-on" coding of assigned problems using CPT procedures. Prerequisite: Participant needs working knowledge of CPT coding gained through the Basic CPT Coding workshop or through office experience. This is not a class for beginners. IMPORTANT: Registrant will need to bring the year 2001 CPT Coding manual. It is necessary that each participant have a CPT code book. Class includes handouts, coffee and muffins. Objective: 1) Enhance the knowledge of coding with CPT methodology through coding and discussion with participants and presenter.


HCM 0904  Intermediate ICD-9-CM Coding

This course will expand on the initial workshop of ICD-9-CM Coding. This is not a class for beginners. After a brief review of ICD-9-CM Coding, the majority of the time will be with "hands-on" coding practice of assigned problems. Discussion of answers will follow. Prerequisite: Participant needs knowledge of coding with ICD-9-CM gained through the Basic ICD-9-CM Coding workshop or through office experience. Participants will need to bring the 2001 ICD-9-CM Coding manual. This is not a class for beginners. Includes handouts, coffee, muffins and lunch. Particpants will need to bring the 2001 ICD-9-CM Coding Manual. Objective: 1) Expand knowledge of coding practices through completion of coding problems and discussion with participants.


HCM 0906  Medical Terminology - Day 1

This is an overview of medical terminology, giving the person beginning a health career or a person who wishes a refresher of the basics of learning terminology. HCM 0907  Medical Terminology - Day 2

This session is an extension of Medical Terminology-Part I. It may be taken with or without Part I, depending on the student's area of interest. This session provides an overview of prefixes, suffixes and abbreviations of the body systems; endocrine, urinary, reproductive, nervous/psychiatric, special senses (eyes, ears) and common geriatric diagnoses. Lunch and handouts provided.


HCM 0910  Nursing Assistant - You Set the Tone

This seminar is designed to promote responsibility, motivation and effective communication for the nursing assistant. Topics include medical terms, verbal and non-verbal communications, regulations and responsibilities of the nursing assistant, confidentiality and patient bill of rights.


HCM 0913  Nurses Aide Exam

Students will need the following when coming to the exam: 1) The form titled "Minnesota NNAAP Application for Competency Evaluation". (This form will be completed by the instructor and student the last day of classroom training or at clinicals. At this time, the student will give form to instructor and instructor will bring to Customized Training Office.) 2) A Cashier's Check or Money Order made payable to Pearson Vue in the amount of $59.00 must be brought to the test site at the time of testing, no exceptions. (Cash and personal checks are not accepted). If retesting for skills - amount of $19.00 made payable to Pearson Vue. If retesting for written - amount of $40.00 made payable to Pearson Vue. 3) Two forms of ID. One of the ID's must be a photo ID, no exceptions. (Types of acceptable ID's are: Driver's License, Social Security Card, School ID, etc.) 4) A #2 lead pencil for the written test and a black ink pen for completing forms as needed. ALL EXAMS WILL BE HELD IN THE SCIENCE BUILDING, ROOMS 203 AND 230 INVER HILLS COMMUNITY COLLEGE, 2500 80TH ST. EAST INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN 55076


HCM 0980  Basic ICD-9-CM Diagnostic and Procedural Coding Workshop

This class is intended for persons beginning the coding process. Participants will need the 2001 ICD-9-CM Coding manual. Each participant needs a coding manual. Please bring it to class! Includes handouts, coffee, muffins, and lunch. Objectives: 1) Learn "hands-on" coding of diagnoses and procedures 2) Learn guidelines for coding, retrieval of data and experience coding a variety of diagnoses and procedures.


HCM 0985  Basic CPT Coding Workshop

Efficient processing of insurance claims requires complete and accurate coding by personnel in physicians' offices and hospital outpatient departments. This program is designed for persons beginning the coding process and those wishing a refresher course. Required text: bring your 2001 CPT Coding manual. It is necessary to have the 2001 edition. Each participant needs a coding manual. Please bring it to class! Includes handouts, coffee, muffins and lunch. Objectives: 1) Identify the reasons for coding with the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT 2001) 2) Learn when and how to use modifiers 3) Develop coding skills in use of CPT 2001 methodology.


HCM 1111  Medical Terminology

Presents terminology related to the body systems. Emphasis placed on pronunciation, spelling, and definition of terminology.
