About Innovative Technology and Instruction

Courses in the Innovative Technology and Instruction program are designed to prepare educators and trainers for using innovative technology and instructional methods to engage students and improve their learning experiences. Courses in this program remain current by focusing on current and emerging technologies and instructional strategies.

Course Descriptions


ITI 1100  Introduction To Innovative Technology and Instruction

3 cr

Provides a foundation for the use of technology in instruction. Participants will look at ways in which technology can be used to enhance the learning experience. Here we will examine the learner and how generational differences have changed the way students learn, thus changing the way we instruct. This course will include a basic overview of different ways to incorporate interaction into your course design.


ITI 1105  Evaluation Strategies

2 cr

Examines the evaluation of student and group performance, program effectiveness, program outcomes, program quality, teaching strategies, and technology use. In addition, examines the selection of evaluation methodologies, tools, and methods.


ITI 1110  Online Instructional Tools And Strategies

3 cr

Provides instructors with a foundation for starting an online course. Instructors will look at ways to organize their courses in a way that is most effective for students. They will also examine the role that interactivity plays in an online environment, and how they can structure their courses and lessons to foster it. Instructors will also explore a broad range of multimedia options to enhance their courses as well as get the opportunity to see an online course through the student's perspective.


ITI 1115  Using Technology With Groups

2 cr

Examines interaction processes, techniques and strategies for effective group learning. Participants will explore the group process and how technology can be utilized in both large and small group activities. Participants will also explore group facilitation techniques, interactive teaching methods and activities for both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.


ITI 1120  Use of Multimedia

2 cr

Provides an overview and introduction to the use of multimedia in courses. Participants will explore different technologies, their interactive and engaging qualities, and how to use them in instruction. By the end of the course, students will understand the various forms of multimedia, how they are developed, and how to integrate them into their classes.


ITI 1125  Use Of Games And Simulations

2 cr

Provides an overview and introduction to the use of games and simulations in teaching and learning. Participants will explore the technology, its interactive and engaging qualities, and how to use it in instruction. By the end of the course, students will understand games and simulations, how they have been used in education, how they are developed, and how to integrate them into their classes.


ITI 1130  Use Of Social Networks

1 cr

Provides an overview and introduction to the use of social networks in teaching and learning. Participants will explore the technology, its interactive and engaging qualities, and how to use it in instruction. By the end of the course, students will understand social networks, how they have been used in education, how they are developed, and how to integrate them into their classes.


ITI 1135  Use Of Wikis

1 cr

Provides an overview and introduction to the use of wikis as a collaborative teaching and learning tool. Participants will explore the technology, its interactive and engaging qualities, and how to use it in instruction. By the end of the course, students will understand wikis, how they have been used in education, how they are developed, and how to integrate them into their classes.


ITI 1140  Use Of Blogs And Vlogs

1 cr

Provides an overview and introduction to the use of blogs, vlogs, blogging, and vlogging in teaching and learning. Participants will explore the technology, its interactive and engaging qualities, and how to use it in instruction. By the end of the course, students will understand blogs and vlogs, how they can be used in education, how they are developed, and how to integrate them into their classes.


ITI 1145  Use of Podcasts

1 cr

Provides an overview and introduction to podcasting. Participants will explore the technology and the different uses of it in instruction. By the end of the course, students will have successfully completed a podcast.


ITI 1150  Designing For Online

2 cr

Examines the use of technology to produce engaging online learning environments that move beyond just discussion. Participants will use design principles and motivational strategies to design interactive lessons. Participants will work on the design of their own lesson incorporating design strategies and appropriate technology.


ITI 2250  Special Topics

cr

Examines new teaching technologies and strategies as they emerge. The course will look at the technologies and strategies and their viability in the classroom. Course topics may include a variety of topics that will be determined as they become prevalent. Course may be repeated under different topics.
