Sociology --- SOC

About the Sociology Department

Sociology is the study of social structures and looks at the constructions that exist in all societies that make up our realities. Sociology courses generally focus on institutions common to most cultures like government, families, religions, economics, and education. Other topics may include the media, race relations, gender inequality, law enforcement, and deviance. The sociology department at Inver Hills is devoted to helping students examine the social world from new perspectives. Course contents, which range from current events and controversial contemporary issues to surveys of forgotten cultures and investigations of the sources of power and privilege, are all designed to stimulate student curiosity and offer a new lens to the social world. Inver Hills sociology courses are part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
