Inver Hills uses the traditional 4.00 grading scale with a grade of A worth four grade points, a grade of B worth three grade points, a grade of C worth two grade points, and a grade of D worth one grade point. A grade of F is worth no (zero) grade points. The college no longer uses the plus/minus grading system for course grades.

Inver Hills is on the semester system and all credits earned are considered semester credits. A credit equals one contact hour (50 minutes) a week for the length of the term (usually about 15 weeks for a semester, but subject to change based on holidays, breaks, and other non-contact days). A three-credit course, then, would usually require three contact hours a week for the length of the semester. For some classes, instructors may adjust contact time, however, to meet learning objectives and to cover material effectively. Accelerated classes and summer classes meet on a more intensive schedule (more contact hours per week).
The Associate in Arts degree is a 60-credit degree. Other associate degrees may require more credits, usually 62 or 64. To complete an associate degree in two years, you usually need to register for and complete 15 or 16 credits a term. However, for financial aid, insurance, and dependent-student status, full-time enrollment is considered 12 credits or more. Fewer than 12 credits is considered part-time enrollment. Generally students have the option of attending Inver Hills either full time or part time, and the majority of the students are part-time. However, certain programs may schedule classes such that students must take 12 or more credits a term to complete course sequences and meet degree requirements.
As a general rule, for every hour in class, you should plan on two hours of reading, study, and preparation outside of class. If you're attending full time and registered for 15 credits, then, you would have about 30 hours of work each week in addition to class attendance.
