Overview

Basic admission procedures and requirements and application steps are the same both for students enrolling in college for the first time and for transfer students. There are no admission requirements other than a high school diploma or G.E.D.; entrance testing is not required. You will be admitted once your application file is complete.

Regular Admission is recommended for all students new to Inver Hills. Regular admission allows you to determine your readiness for college writing, reading, and mathematics through assessment tests that determine what level of classes you may register for. Through Regular Admission, you attend orientation and register with the help of an academic counselor.

The Limited Enrollment option is for students who do not want to earn a degree at Inver Hills or who just want to take one or two classes. The Limited Enrollment registration process is more streamlined and self-directed, but restrictions apply. See Application Steps for complete details on how to apply to the college through the Regular Admission process or register for classes through the Limited Enrollment process.

Transferring credits to Inver Hills

If you have earned college credit at other institutions or through alternative means such as AP courses or military education, you may send transcripts or the appropriate documents to Inver Hills for evaluation when you apply. Submission of transcripts is optional, but it is recommended for advising purposes and required if you are applying for financial aid. See "Submission of transcripts" below for more about the process.

See General Transfer Policies for information about how credits are evaluated and what is required for credits to transfer to Inver Hills. Details are included that relate to the following types of credit-earning options.

Submission of transcripts

For an informal, unofficial review of your transcript before you apply, you may contact Enrollment Services and submit student copies of your transcript. This will give you an idea of what equivalent courses you have taken and what may transfer. This applies only to U.S. colleges. Contact Enrollment Services for details; you may bring in a transcript and drop it off or bring it with to a campus visit/info meeting. Allow at least two days for review.

The formal acceptance of credits and coursework taken at other colleges is done through the Regular Admission process and requires application to Inver Hills.

Transfer students have the option, when they apply, of submitting transcripts of previous college work for evaluation and advising purposes.

If you submit transcripts of previous college work when you apply, they will be reviewed and the registrar can determine:

Only official transcripts submitted directly to Inver Hills in a sealed envelope from the previous college will be considered for formal evaluation of credits.

Submission of all transcripts is required if you are applying for financial aid.

Transfer students with sufficient college experience may have the option of an online orientation. You will be notified once your application file is complete.
