Attend "Ethics of Medicine: The Power to Heal and the Power to Harm," a two day Interdisciplinary Workshop held on April 11-12 in conjunction with the Minnesota Science Museum exhibit "Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race." The workshop examines the historical experiences of the abuse of humans which have taken place not only in Nazi Germany, but in many other societies as well, including that of the United States.
A key-note presentation by John Eyler, University of Minnesota Chair of the History of Medicine Department, will lay the groundwork for several studies in which the abuse and misuse of human subjects has occurred in the name of pursuing scientific knowledge. Stephen Feinberg, Educational Outreach Coordinator from the United States Memorial Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. will also discuss the objectives of the Deadly Medicine exhibit. A question and answer session will follow both presentations.
A Holocaust testimonial will be offered by Eva Kor, a survivor of Nazi experimentation. Kor is the founder of the CANDLES Holocaust Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana. This event is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is open to the general public. Kor is also to be a guest lecturer at the Minnesota Science Museum the evening of April 10. This event is open to the public. Dr. Robert Fisch, retired University of Minnesota physician and world renowned expert in mental retardation; and Margot DeWilde, holocaust survivor, are also scheduled to present.
