Finding Articles in ProQuest Psychology Database

The easiest way to access the databases is by choosing it from the Featured Resources drop-down menu on the Inver Hills' Library homepage: http://www.inverhills.edu/library. You can also access it from the Research Tools section.

You'll be taken to the basic search screen.

Basic Keyword Searching

In the box marked Multiple Databases, pull down on the arrow and choose Psychology - ProQuest Psychology Journals. Then click in the boxes next to Full text documents only and Scholarly journals, including peer-reviewed. Now go up to the search box and type in your search terms, i.e., adult and aging (or alzheimer's disease or any other topic of your choosing). Your search screen should look like this:

After you hit the Search key, a list of articles will come up. The most recently published articles will be listed first. Click on the title of the article to open it up. You will usually have both an abstract and the full article there. Click on the Print button just above the article title to print the article or you also have the option to email it to yourself.

Topic Searching

You can also search in ProQuest by topic. On the main search page, click on the green tab at the top of the page titled Topics (at this point you don't need to type in a topic or click in the Full text or Scholarly journals boxes). Type in your topic in the box, i.e., adult and aging. Make sure the first button, Suggest topics, is green or highlighted, and then click on Find Term. A list of topics related to your search terms pops up. Choose a topic of interest, then click on either View documents or Narrow by related topic. When you view the documents, a list of articles comes up, and then you can narrow by Full text by clicking on the Show only full text link. After that list pops up, you can limit to peer-reviewed or scholarly articles by clicking on the Scholarly Journals tab. Open up the article and print or email as mentioned above.

If you choose Narrow by related topic, another list of possible topics to that topic will come up. The options are almost endless!

You can access this database or any of the databases on the library homepage from off-campus. You will need a 14-digit library barcode number on the back of your student ID. If you don't have one, stop by the library and we'll give you one. Additional off-campus access information is available.
