Two Types of Article Databases

2. Subject Databases

  • Is your topic in a particular subject area?

If so, use a subject database. (If needed, ask a Librarian to help you select the best database for your topic area!) These databases specialize in a particular subject, and many of the articles indexed are from scholarly sources. Examples of subject databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

Periodical Abstracts
Business Source Premier
Full text articles from business periodicals, as well as company and industry profiles, and market research reports.
Historical Abstracts
Indexes articles (some full text) in Nursing and Allied Health journals.
ASTAAltPressWatch
Access to full text articles from alternative press and independent newspapers, magazines and journals.
