What is a Mentor or a Mentee?
- Mentor
- The mentor works collaboratively with online faculty to accelerate the orientation and planning process of online learning. The mentor is knowledgeable and experienced in using online learning strategies. The mentor models quality online teaching strategies.
- Mentee
- The mentee is any new or current online faculty seeking guidance and support in implementing online teaching strategies. The mentee includes any online educator who is responsible for development of his/her own course.
Why should I participate in the faculty mentoring program for online teaching?
Benefits for the MENTOR:
- Mentor develops new skills as a result of working with mentee
- Mentor develops new knowledge
- Mentor feels positive about helping other faculty learn
- Mentor improves leadership and collaborative skills
- Provides support for attending online professional development events
- This is a chance to reciprocate for a previous experience with a wonderful mentor
- You could receive recognition from peers and administration.
- You'll review and validate what you know and what you've accomplished.
- You'll probably feel satisfied, proud, and other energizing emotions.
- Mentoring could have future personal payoffs. When mentees are successful, they often reward their mentors—profuse words of thanks, offers to lunch and other food rewards, a change to meet their families and friends…who knows!
- You'll help Inver Hills Community College. Mentoring employees helps give our college a recruitment edge, shortens learning curves, increase your mentees' job satisfaction and loyalty, and improves quality.
- Oh, and then there is the stipend--$300 per mentee relationship
