Course Changes

Does it seem strange to include Course Changes in the Money Matters section of orientation?  At first glance the topic may appear out of place, but making changes to your course schedule can have significant financial repercussions.

No-Obligation Registration Period:

You will only be given the opportunity to add or remove classes from your schedule through the "no-obligation period" (the fifth business day of the term). During this five day period, you can make any necessary schedule adjustments (add another class, reduce your credit amount, or switch from one class to another). Removing a class from your schedule during this period is called a "no-obligation withdrawal."

Here's a brief summary of this important policy:

  • 5th business day of term is the final opportunity for course changes (adds or removals)
  • All changes (add/removals) must be done online
  • "No-obligation withdrawals" do not appear on your transcript and you receive 100% refund
  • Late start courses - beginning after the 5th business day
    • attend one class period without financial obligation
    • Add or drop the class by 11:59pm of the day following first class meeting date

Hint: Students are commonly confused by this policy so be sure to speak with a counselor if necessary.

After the 5th Business Day . . .

You will be financially responsible for all credits registered for after the 5th day of the term. To remove a class from your schedule after the 5th day several factors come into play:

  • A grade of "W" (Withdraw) will be recorded on your academic transcript
  • A withdraw may affect both your financial aid and/or satisfactory progress requirement (Falling below 67% credit completion causes academic and financial aid probation)
  • A "W" is better than an "F" grade because it doesn't factor into your GPA
  • Fill out the form - you can withdraw in person at Enrollment Services or online)
  • Partial Withdrawals (you keep some classes) are not eligible for a refund
  • Total withdrawals (withdraw from all classes) may qualify for a reduced refund

Last day to Withdraw

There is a final deadline to withdraw from courses each semester (typically 10 days before the end of the class).  See the Key Dates for details!
