Good writing can help you get a job (cover letters, resumes, writing samples, essay questions), get into school (personal statements and essays), and keep a job (memos, e-mail, newsletters, reports, proposals, case summaries, progress notes, presentations, etc.). In your personal life, good writing can help you with letters, journals, self-expression, and the development of your imagination.
Yes! The Writing Center can benefit students in all levels of writing and in all subjects (biology, nursing, sociology, art, psychology, law enforcement, etc.). Even the most accomplished novelists need feedback from other people to develop their writing to its fullest.
Elizabeth Kellett and Amanda Pruka are the lab assistants who staff the Writing Center during its hours of operation. They are experienced as writers and teachers of writing. Additionally, student tutors put in regular hours, and faculty members occasionally make themselves available to help students in the Writing Center.
The Writing Center can help you with anything to do with writing: brainstorming topic ideas, clarifying a thesis, organizing essays, citing sources, reviewing grammar, editing, etc.
The Inver Hills Community College Writing Center is located on the second floor of the Library Building, across from the Assessments/GED Testing desk.
