Using EBSCOHost to get full-text Sociology Journal Articles
- Go to the Inver Hills Library home page: http://www.inverhills.edu/library. Go to the Quick Links box and click on the arrow.
- Click on Academic Search Premier.
-
On this page, click on the
Publications button near the top of the page. You will now need to
type in the names of the journals you wish to search and mark them.
First, in the Browse Publications box, type in the name of
the first journal on the list,
Adolescence. The journal
should pop up first in the list. Click in the box next to the title.
Continue to type in the name of each journal you wish to search and
click in the box next to the title. This is ‘marking’ the items you want
the database to search. When you
are done marking the journals you want, click on the Add button
at the top of the list of journals.
-
All of your journals should appear in the top search box.
Click Search.
Now click Advanced Search
(below the search box). Several
search boxes appear. In the
second search box, type in the subject you’d like to search (I chose
children). In the drop down menu
next to your subject search, choose
SU Subject Terms. Click on
Search.
This gives you a list of
articles on your topic in the specific periodicals you chose. Now limit
your search to only the articles that are Full Text. Under
Limit Your Results to the
right of your results, click the
Full Text box. Then click
Update Results.
For
more and better results, choose a broad, one- or two-word topic, i.e.,
children, drugs, television, film, theater, music, alcohol abuse,
military, education, crime, sex, religion, culture, sports, families,
employment, drug abuse, child abuse, gifted education, etc. then look
at the Subdivisions link for articles of interest.

- Click on the title of the article to open
a citation page with an abstract of the article.
To read the full article, click on either the HTML Fulltext or PDF
Full text links. Then click on the
Print,
Email, or Save to File button for the service you want.
When you choose any of these options, you can create a citation for
it. After you click on Print, Email or Save, look for the
heading, Citation Format, on the right side
of the page. Pull down on the arrow, choose the citation style you
need, and proceed with the action you requested. The citation will
be at the top of the first page. Another option is to
click on the Cite this article icon next to
the floppy disc icon at the top of the citation page. This
opens up a link where you can cut and paste a citation into a Word
document.
It is always a good idea to check with your instructor to make
sure your citation is correct.
- If you want to edit your search topic and use the same selected journals,
go to the top of the page and edit your search term only.
Click on the Search button and new results will come up.
- Most research articles will be more than 10 pages in length and
can be more
