biology students

Biology is the natural science of life and living organisms. The field is immensely diverse with numerous branches, from paleontology, the study of prehistoric life, to biochemistry, the study of life at the chemical level, to astrobiology, the study of life beyond Earth.

Biology at Inver Hills offers specialized and general laboratory courses that are designed for two-year and four-year degrees in the life sciences and health care, including nursing. If you are aiming to major in the biological sciences, you can pursue either an A.S. degree in Biology or an A.A. with an Emphasis in Biology. You can find out which path is best for you by consulting with an Inver Hills academic advisor or counselor.

The Biology department at Inver Hills is also creating opportunities for students through a number of novel research projects, including amphibian pathogen studies, wildlife studies in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Phage Hunters, a bacteriophage (viruses that infect bacteria) study in partnership with the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota. A3 Ag: Aspire. Accelerate. Advance.

Inver Hills is offering three $1,000 scholarships for motivated students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture. If you think ag science is all cows and plows, think again. Modern agriculture is focused on achieving the best results in nutrition, ecology and economics. Rewarding jobs are abundant in the fields of food systems, renewable energy and the environment with nowhere near the number of qualified college graduates needed to fill them.
