You don't have to wait until you graduate to put your knowledge to work. Through experiential learning, you can collaborate with local high schools, conduct research with community partners and solve operations issues for organizations.

Career Services helps students and alumni achieve their career and educational goals through learning about the world of work and job and internship preparation. We help you achieve your goals through the following services and resources.

Recruit Talent

  • Inver Hills has over 5000 current and future professionals pursuing various industries and occupations.
  • Post your opportunities for free to Alumnae and Students in our online job posting system.
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting or interviewing. To host a table, contact cel@inverhills.edu.
  • Access online portfolio or resumes in our online job posting system.
  • Participate in Job and Internship Fairs.

Gain Visibility

  • Even if your organization is well known in the marketplace you will probably need to invest time on campus and create some hiring success stories to become a preferred employer in student’s minds.
  • Sponsor career workshops and events.
  • Conduct mock interviews and resume critiques.
  • Provide site visits.
  • Provide class or panel presentations.
  • Serve as a source for Informational Interviews.

Build a Pipeline for Future Talent

  • As you plan to have growth in your organization so will your staffing needs and demands. This will require partnerships to not only meet your current but future needs.

CAREERwise Education

The internet is a wonderful tool to explore careers and majors. However the best way is through direct exposure and experience. An internship is ideal but to start your process consider the following options:

Mentoring

  • Learn from a professional in your desired career or industry in a mentor/mentee experience

Job Shadowing

  • Shadow a professional in your field for hands on experience

Volunteer for Experience

  • Work in a non-profit developing your skills on a volunteer basis while contributing to the mission of the organization

Information Interviewing

  • Interview a professional about their job, career path or education and learn about the challenges and successes that got them where they are today

Enroll in a career exploration or field experience course offered by the Counseling and Advising department

Participate in an Academic Club or Professional Association

  • Network with peers who share your interest in a field of study or career area and gain exposure to professionals in the field

Job and Internship Preparation

  • Resume and cover letter development -learn how to develop tailored application materials for your job search needs
  • Networking - learn how to create and maintain a professional network

The Center for Experiential Learning provides the following resume and cover letter help:

  • Online resume reviews – simply upload your resume to College Central Jobs under "manage my resume" after you log in. You will receive feedback within 24-48 hours.
  • Face to face – see walk-in hours or schedule an appointment by contacting our department.
  • Online resources – click on our resume outline and cover letter samples under Job and Internship Preparation to get started or in College Central click on the Documents section for further information on how to write a resume or cover letter.
  • Workshops – see our schedule on College Central Jobs for upcoming workshops on job search topics.

For assistance with English and grammar related to writing your resume please visit the Writing Center on the 2nd floor of the Library Building or visit their website.

Alumni

Alumni can stay connected to IHCC through Career Services:

  • Serve as a resource for current students providing informational interviews on your major, career and graduate school experiences
  • Provide an opportunity for current students to "shadow" you in your workplace
  • Serve as a panelist or presenter on your occupation or industry
