Refunds

Students who receive confirmation of total withdrawal from the Enrollment Center are eligible for refunds according to the schedule below.  The effective date of a drop or total withdrawal is the date the request is received by the Enrollment Center.

Refunds can be distributed by check or direct deposit.  Select your preference for receiving refunds at www.ihccaccesscard.com.  To learn more about the IHCC Access Card, click here.

The refund schedule is based on the policy adopted by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.

Withdrawal and refund schedule

The academic calendar contains all withdrawal deadlines. Please review it to obtain actual dates.

Full-term and first-half classes

Students have five (5) business days from the first day of the semester to add or withdraw from individual classes. During this time, all adds or withdraws must be processed online and must be completed by the 5th business day at 11:59 p.m., central time. This five business-day period is called the "no-obligation period" when you are able to withdraw from classes with a full refund and without a W grade on your transcript.

Beginning with the sixth business day, withdrawals may be processed online, in person at the Office of Enrollment Services, or by writing via fax or postal mail by required deadlines. Students can obtain withdrawal forms from the Office of Enrollment Services or download the withdrawal form (a pdf document). Students withdrawing at this time will receive a grade of W on their transcript. There is no refund for individual courses withdrawn after the 5th business day of the semester.

Beginning with the sixth business day, refunds will only be given for total (all classes) withdrawal. In addition, a W grade will appear on your transcript for each class withdrawn.

1-5 business days 100% (no-obligation period)
6-10 business days 75%
11-15 business days 50%
16-20 business days 25%
After the 20th business day 0%
Classes beginning on other dates (not during the first week of the term) 

Students are entitled the opportunity to attend one class session for each registered, for-credit course, without obligation. Students have one (1) business day from the start of the class to add or withdraw from individual classes. During this time, all adds or withdraws must be processed online and must be completed by the first business day at 11:59 p.m., central time (i.e., if your class begins on Tuesday, you have until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. to withdraw from your class with a full refund and no W appearing on your transcript). This one business-day period is called the "no-obligation period" when you are able to withdraw from classes with a full refund and without a W grade on your transcript.

Beginning with the second business day, withdrawals may be processed online, in person at the Office of Enrollment Services, or by writing via fax or postal mail by required deadlines. Students can obtain withdrawal forms from the Office of Enrollment Services or download the withdrawal form  a PDF document. Students withdrawing at this time will receive a grade of W on their transcript. There is no refund for courses withdrawn after the end of the first business day after the class begins.

Summer Session

Students have five (5) business days from the first day of Summer Session to add or withdraw from individual classes. During this time, all adds or withdraws must be processed online and must be completed by the fifth business day at 11:59 p.m., central time. This five business-day period is called the "no-obligation period" when you are able to withdraw from classes with a full refund and without a W grade on your transcript.

Beginning with the sixth business day of each Summer Session, withdrawals may be processed online, in person at the Office of Enrollment Services, or by writing via fax or postal mail by required deadlines. Students can obtain withdrawal forms from the Office of Enrollment Services or download the withdrawal form. Students withdrawing at this time will receive a grade of W on their transcript. There is no refund for individual courses withdrawn after the sixth business day of each Summer Session.

For summer classes that do not begin during the first week of Summer Session, students must withdraw by the next business day after the start of the class so receive a full refund.
