Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment (EDGE) Scholarship

Travelers FoundationTo ensure a qualified workforce for tomorrow, Travelers is contributing to a wide range of educational projects today. In 2007, the company launched the Travelers EDGE: Empowering Dreams for Graduation, a holistic approach to education that is the formula for success for underrepresented students. Through partnerships with colleges, universities and community-based programs, we are increasing access to higher education and providing students with the opportunity to excel.

As part of the program, Travelers is partnering with colleges, universities and community-based programs committed to helping students from underrepresented communities succeed. We aim to do this by:

  • Increasing the pipeline of underrepresented students to college
  • Helping students from underrepresented communities graduate from college
  • Building awareness of careers in insurance and financial services

Travelers EDGE offers:

  • Financial support
  • Career and business exploration
  • Internships and job shadowing
  • Professional development workshops


  • Plan to be enrolled at IHCC for all of 2020-2021 academic year
  • Have a 3.0+ GPA at the end of fall 2019 (at Inver Hills or previous high school/college if this is your first semester at Inver Hills)
  • Be enrolled in one of the eligible majors: AA w/plan to pursue relevant Bachelor's, Accounting, Actuarial, Science, Business Administration/Management (including Business Transfer Pathway), Communications, Computer/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Contemporary Business, Economics, Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Information Technology, International Business, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Mathematics, Risk Management/ Insurance, Statistics
  • Estimated Family Contribution of $7,500 or less (log in to FAFSA or contact Catima w/questions)
  • Be eligible to work in U.S. without sponsorship

How to Apply

The Travelers EDGE Scholars for 2020-2021 Deadline has Passed. Please contact Catima Wilson if you have any questions.

Program Requirements

EDGE Scholars must:

  • Attend all scheduled events (approximately four or five events per month).
  • Complete a supervised internship of a minimum of 80 hours and participate in EDGE Scholars Discussion Meetings during the spring semester.
  • Meet with a faculty mentor regularly and complete academic requirements for internship.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and 75% completion rate.
  • Commit to fulfilling all program requirements, graduating, and transferring to earn a bachelor's degree.
  • Meet with EDGE academic advisor at least three times each semester.
