Artist Talk and Q&A with Inver Hills Ceramics AlumnusMargaret Haden, Inver Hills alumnus, began her studies at Inver Hills and then went on to earn a BFA from the UW-River Falls and an MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics. She has been an artist in residence at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, the Clay Studio of Missoula, and Kansas State University, and she currently lives, teaches, and makes work in Pittsburgh PA. He refers to his work portraying historical, political and social issues as “narrative paintings,” expressing a broad range of ideas and experiences with sly humor and an eye-popping palette. Ceramics/Pattern-Making Demonstration Liz Zlot Summerfield grew up in Northern California and was a child of both an entrepreneur and an admirer of the arts. She has an MFA from the University of Minnesota, has taught at numerous institutions, has been featured in art magazines, and sells her work nationally. She will demonstrate how to make a pattern for a cream and sugar set and how to use the patterns to make the forms using clay slabs. Artist Talk and Q&A with Inver Hills Painting Alumnus Susan Wangari Mathenge began her academic career at Inver Hills and is now pursuing an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her paintings, some of which were purchased by museums and private collectors, feature intimate interiors of fictional diasporan homes in which figures and objects reflect the loss and re-fabrication that occurs in instances of dislocation and displacement. She has created large-scale installations, fire performances, elaborately carved and embellished sculpture, and monumental works made entirely of bone, and received a McKnight Foundation Distinguished Minnesota Artist Award.
