Are you looking for an unforgettable and meaningful experience? Join us on our volunteer trip to Babbitt, MN, May 19-21! Our team of volunteers will spend three days helping to make a positive difference at YMCA Camp Northern Lights. We'll help prepare the camp for the summer with projects such as cleaning, repairing, building, organizing and painting. We’ll work hard during the day, and in the evening, we will enjoy all the camp has to offer like biking and hiking trails and the sauna.
During the weekend we will also have a visit from a Boundary Waters conservation organization to learn about environmental advocacy.
By the end of the trip, you will be inspired by the people you met and the experiences you shared. Come and join us for a life-changing adventure!
Our Inver Hills group will be sharing a cabin at Camp Northern Lights. The cabins are winterized and have a full kitchen and bathroom. Members of our group will need to share rooms but not beds.
We will prepare our own meals in our cabin throughout the weekend, so we will shop for and bring food that meets the dietary needs and preferences of the members of our group. You do not need to pay for food.
Contact Shannon Williams, Community-Based Learning Coordinator, at swilliams@inverhills.edu. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 31.
The cost to join us for this service trip is $25 and includes all food, lodging, and transportation. You will need to bring your own bedding and towels.
We will travel to Camp Northern Lights in an Inver Hills-owned minivan.
We will finalize the itinerary as we get closer to the weekend, but in general, we will depart from the Inver Hills campus on the morning of Friday, May 19 and return to campus in the mid-afternoon on Sunday, May 21. It is a four-hour drive from Inver Grove Heights to Babbitt. We will have a volunteer orientation on Saturday morning and spend Saturday on service projects. Friday and Saturday night will be free/open to enjoy the camp. At some point in the weekend, we will learn from/meet with a representative from a Boundary Waters advocacy organization.
