  • Inclusive, supportive community
  • Proactive advising
  • Network of motivated students
  • Personalized transfer planning

Who is eligible to participate?

TRIO SSS selects 140 students a year to participate in the program. In order to be considered, please complete and submit a TRIO application online. The staff will review the applications and invite potential students to an intake meeting.

Students must be either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, enrolled in a degree program and taking a minimum of 6 credits. Students must also meet at least one of the following federal eligibility criteria:

  • First-generation college student (parent or guardian did not hold a bachelor’s degree while the student was in high school)
  • Meet federal income guidelines
  • Be eligible to receive accommodations for a documented disability through Accessibility Resources at Inver Hills.

Summer Bridge for recent high school graduates

Summer Bridge is a transitional experience for recent high school graduates who will be new incoming TRIO students. Summer Bridge includes workshops and conversations preparing students for college success, outdoors activities, a variety of community-building events, and opportunities for participants to meet staff, faculty, student mentors, and other students and get familiar with campus prior to the start of the fall semester.

Summer Bridge is completely free to students. To be eligible, students must be recent high school graduates, enrolled as degree-seeking at Inver Hills, eligible for TRIO, and have applied for financial aid for the fall semester.

Applications are closed for Summer 2022.

Donate to TRIO

The core functions of TRIO SSS are funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This funding provides academic advising, tutoring, guidance in the transfer planning process, financial literacy education, and other support to TRIO students.

However, many students need some additional support, and this is where your donation really pays off.  TRIO students are more successful than the average student at Inver Hills or nationally. TRIO students succeed at these levels despite significant financial and other challenges.

Donations to support TRIO can help to alleviate some of these challenges and offer opportunities they would not otherwise be able to access. For example, donations to TRIO may provide emergency meals, groceries, or gas money to students in need; purchase textbooks or other needed supplies not covered by financial aid; provide snacks at TRIO events; give a TRIO student the opportunity to attend a research or leadership conference; or support a TRIO student studying abroad.

To donate, visit the Inver Hills Foundation online giving page. Choose TRIO Program Support from the designation dropdown list. Thanks so much for your support of our program and our students!
